The Kanpur Metropolitan Area is the metropolitan area of Indian metropolis of Kanpur. The metropolitan area border has been assumed by Kanpur Development Authority (KDA)[2] and Unnao-Shuklaganj Development Authority (USDA).[3] The state government declared the city of Kanpur as a metropolitan area on 11 October 1976.[4] The area consists of one municipal corporation, 5 municipalities and 4 Counter Magnets.
History
In 1997-98, total metropolitan region area has increased to 89,131.15 ha (891.3115 km2) out of which 4,743.9 ha (47.439 km2) (5.31%) was non-defined (prohibited area) and rest 29,683 ha (296.83 km2) and 54,704 ha (547.04 km2) (61.39%) was urban and rural area respectively.[5]

- Unnao Region Includes Unnao Municipal Corporation area, Shuklaganj or Gangaghat Municipality Area, Katri Piper Khera, Majhra Piper Ahtmali and 44 villages under USDA[6][7][8]
- Akbarpur Region includes Akbarpur NP, Jalalpur Nagin, Nagin Jasi, Jainpur, Barah, Banar Ali and Raniyan
