Kavalande Village

Kavalande is a village in Mysore district of Karnataka state, India.

Location

Kavalande is located between Nanjangud town and Chamarajanagar town.[1] The village center is called Dodda-Kavalande and it lies on the south of the railway station immediately after the level crossing. The small village of Chikka-Kavalande lies on the north of the railway station at a distance of 1.56 kilometer. A third village called K.R.Pura lies on the eastern side of DoddaKavalande on the highway to Chamarajanagar.

There is a post office in the village and the pincode is 571312.[2]

Demographics

Dodda-Kavalande is a Muslim and Dalit dominated area. Chikka-Kavalande is populated farmers from the lower caste Hindus. K.R.Puram is dominated by the upper caste Hindus.

Transporatation

There is a railway station in Kavalande. The village comes under the Mysore-Chamarajanagar branch line.. Trains area available to Mysore at 7.25 am, 11.10am, 5.20 pm, 6.25 pm and 11.15 pm. Trains are available to Chamarajanagar at 6.05 am, 8.50 am, 1.35 pm, 4.05 pmand 8.05pm.

Economy

The village is agrarian in its economic activity. The town is fairly big with about 50 shops and a separate police station and post office. There is a branch of Indian Overseas Bank here. [3]

Tourism

Kavalande village has a picture post card quality and the main attraction is easy access by bus and train. The three villages of Chikkakowlande, Doddakowlande and K.R.Puram are very photogenic. It is possible to view and absorb the forgotten shepherd lifestyle here. The only restaurant of the village is at K.R.Puram. No hotels or resorts are available here and such facilities are available at nearby towns like Nanjangud and Chamarajanagar.
