Kentucky Route 2143 (KY 2143), known locally as Old Happy Valley Road, is a short east–west secondary state highway located entirely in northwestern Barren County in the cave region of south-central Kentucky.
Route description
KY 2143 originates at an intersection with U.S. Route 31W (US 31W) just south of Cave City. It runs alongside Prewitt's Knob and ends at a junction with KY 685 at a point just 0.137 miles (0.220 km) short of that state route's junction with KY 90 (Happy Valley Road).[2]
History
KY 2143 was originally Happy Valley Road, then designated as KY 351, which had gone from the US 31W/US 68 intersection to downtown Glasgow since the 1930s.[3][4] In the 1950s, KY 90 was extended to include this particular road until it was rerouted to head into Cave City directly in the late 1960s or early 1970s. This change gave the now KY 2143 the local road name Old Happy Valley Road.[5][6]
The current KY 351 has since been reassigned to a roadway in northwest Kentucky, particularly in Henderson County.
