Kineshemsky District (Russian: Ки́нешемский райо́н) is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the twenty-one in Ivanovo Oblast, Russia.^[2] It is located in the northeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,610 square kilometers (620 sq mi). Its administrative center is the town of Kineshma^[1] (which is not administratively a part of the district).^[7] Population: 23,258 (2010 Census);^[4] 27,650 (2002 Census);^[8] 30,805 (1989 Census).^[9]

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Kineshemsky District is one of the twenty-one in the oblast.^[1] The town of Kineshma serves as its administrative center,^[1] despite being incorporated separately as an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.^[7] Prior to the adoption of the Law #145-OZ On the Administrative-Territorial Division of Ivanovo Oblast in December 2010, the town of Navoloki was also incorporated separately from the district with the same status as Kineshma.

As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Kineshemsky Municipal District.^[3] The Town of Kineshma is incorporated separately from the district as Kineshma Urban Okrug.^[10] The town of Navoloki is incorporated within the municipal district as Navolokskoye Urban Settlement.^[3]
