Large UV Optical Infrared Surveyor

The Large UV/Optical/Infrared Surveyor (LUVOIR) is a proposed space observatory that would be located at the Sun-Earth Lagrange 2 point. LUVOIR is one of the concept telescopes proposed for the Decadal Survery Concept Study started in Jan 2016. It is planned on a mirror size of from 8m up to a possible 18m diameter, and covering wavelengths from around 0.1 microns (ultra violet) to 5 (mid-infrared).

Overview

LUVOIR would be equipped with an internal coronagraph, a disk that blocks light from the central star, and would have the option to make use of an external starshade. It would also have a range of high dynamic range sensors that work in the UV, optical and infrared.

It's four main goals are to investigate astrophysics, exoplanets, cosmic origins and the solar system.
