General elections will be held in Liberia on 10 October 2017,[1] electing the President and House of Representatives. The elections are overseen by the National Elections Commission (NEC).
Electoral system
The President is elected using the two-round system,[2] whilst the 73 members of the House of Representatives are elected by first-past-the-post voting in single-member constituencies.[3]
Presidential candidates
- Former footballer George Weah, who was defeated by Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in the 2005 election, has announced he will run for office again.[4]
- Joseph Boakai,[5] vice-president since January 2006.
- Prince Johnson, former rebel leader[5]
- Benoni Urey, businessman[5]
Sirleaf has announced she will step down.[5]
