Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai (Chinese: 蔡依林) has received numerous awards and nominations domestically and internationally. After winning the champion at an MTV singing competition,[1] she released her debut album, 1019 (1999), by Universal Music Taiwan. 1019 was followed by a series of hit singles from her studio albums, Don't Stop (2000) and Show Your Love (2000), which gave her general public recognition. Tsai became a "Teenage Boy Killer" for her sweet and young image, which became an instant hit among teenagers.[2] She won the award for International Viewer's Choice for her music video at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards for the music video of "Fall in Love with a Street".[3]
Tsai's fifth studio album, Magic, which was heralded as her comeback album, was released in 2003. She received the nominations of Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Mandarin Female Singer at the 15th Golden Melody Awards.[4] Tsai also received an MTV Asia Award nomination for Favorite Artist Taiwan.[5] Her sixth studio album, Castle, was released in 2004. She received an MTV Asia Award nomination for Favorite Artist Taiwan and an MTV Video Music Award Japan nomination for Best Buzz Asia for the music video of "Pirates".[6][7] Tsai released her seventh studio album, J-game, in 2005. She received an MTV Asia Award nomination for Favorite Artist Taiwan.[8]
Tsai's eighth studio album, Dancing Diva (2006), became one of her most critically acclaimed releases. She won an MTV Asia Award for The Style Award.[8] She also won the awards for Best Mandarin Female Artist and Most Popular Female Artist at the 18th Golden Melody Awards for the album of Dancing Diva. The album was also nominated in the Best Mandarin Album category.[9] She released her ninth studio album, Agent J, in 2007. She was nominated for an MTV Asia Award for Favorite Artist Taiwan.[10] The album was followed by another commercially successful studio albums, Butterfly, which was release in 2009. Her eleventh studio album, Myself, was released in 2010. She received a Golden Melody Award nomination for Best Music Video for the music video of "Honey Trap".[11]
Tsai's eleventh studio album, Muse, was released in 2012. she was nominated an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Asian Act.[12] In 2013, she won the award of Best Song of the Year at the 24th Golden Melody Awards for the song of "The Great Artist", while the album Muse was nominated for the Best Mandarin Album and Best Mandarin Female Singer.[13] Her thirteenth studio album, Play (2014), received ten Golden Melody Award nominations and won the Best Mandarin Album and Best Vocal Recording Album at the 26th Golden Melody Awards.[14] she was nominated an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Taiwanese Act and won an Mnet Asian Music Award for Best Asian Artist in 2015.[15][16]
