List of cover versions of Madonna songs
This is a list of cover versions of notable music artists who have covered one or more songs written and recorded by American singer Madonna.[a] Madonna is the most successful and best-selling female artist worldwide and a critically praised artist whose music has been praised on several occasions for changing contemporary music history, mainly in the rock, dance and pop genres.[1][2][3][4][5][6] Susan Sarandon said that "the history of women in popular music can, pretty much, be divided into before and after Madonna".[7] Often referred to as the "Queen of Pop", she is cited as an influence among other artists around the world, while various music journalists, critical theorists, and authors have deemed Madonna the most iconic and influential female recording artist in the history.[8][9]
Because of her immense influence on entertainment industry and popular culture,[b] many notable artists began covering her songs since her debut in the 1980s. These covers are in several different languages and genres, and feature both on albums and at concerts, festivals, and performances broadcast on television and the internet. Some of these covers received positive reviews from music critics and featured on record charts. When the Glee cast released their third album, Glee: The Music, The Power of Madonna, Billboard commented: "...even when she's not No. 1. Madonna's songs have found a place atop a Billboard ranking even when she's not singing them... reinforcing that the Queen of Pop's music continues to reign among each new generation".[10]
