This is a list of earthquakes in 1905. Only magnitude 6.0 or greater earthquakes appear on the list. Exceptions to this are earthquakes which have caused death, injury or damage. Events which occurred in remote areas will be excluded from the list as they wouldn't have generated significant media interest. All dates are listed according to UTC time. Several events during the year provided some interest. The most notable was a devastating quake which struck India in April. With 19,000 deaths this was the deadliest quake in the infancy of the 20th Century. Mongolia was shaken during July by a pair of great magnitude 8.3 events which caused no deaths.

• A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the Ninigo Islands, Papua New Guinea on January 13 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[1]
• A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica on January 20 at an unknown depth. Some damage was reported.^[2]
• A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Minahassa Peninsula, Indonesia on January 22 at a depth of 90.0 km.^[3]
• A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the Andreanof Islands, Alaska on February 14 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[4]
• A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Sagaing Region, Myanmar on February 17 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[5]
• A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the Santa Cruz Islands, Solomon Islands on February 19 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[6]
• A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Tonga on February 27 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[7]

• A magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck Himachal Pradesh, India on April 4 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[13] There was around 19,000 people killed and catastrophic damage in the area.^[14]
• A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck directly under Bursa, Bursa Province, Turkey on April 15 at a depth of 33.0 km.^[15]
• A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand on April 19 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[16]
• A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Tarapacá Region, Chile on April 26 at a depth of 60.0 km.^[17]
• A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the Bismarck Sea on May 18 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[18]
• A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck Shkodër County, Albania on June 1 at a depth of 20.0 km. There were reports of 120 people killed and damage costing $23.8 million.^[19]
• A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Hiroshima Prefecture, Honshu, Japan on June 2 at a depth of 55.0 km.^[20] Eleven people died and 59 homes were damaged or destroyed.^[21]
• A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Tonga on June 14 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[22]
• A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Tonga on June 30 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[23]

July–September

• A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck off the east coast of Honshu, Japan on July 6 at a depth of 35.0 km.^[24] A tsunami was generated which resulted in at least 57 deaths at Choshi, Chiba Prefecture.^[25]
• A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck the Sea of Japan on July 6 at a depth of 100.0 km. The epicentre appeared to be closer to the Korean and Russian side.^[26]
• A magnitude 8.3 earthquake struck Khövsgöl Province, Mongolia on July 9 at a depth of 15.0 km.^[27] This was the beginning of a rare sequence of very large earthquakes in Mongolia.
• A magnitude 7.0 aftershock struck Khövsgöl Province, Mongolia on July 11 at a depth of 20.0 km.^[28]
• A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the Volcano Islands, Japan on July 11 at a depth of 450.0 km.^[29]
• A magnitude 6.5 aftershock struck Khövsgöl Province, Mongolia on July 14 at a depth of 20.0 km.^[30]
• A magnitude 8.3 earthquake struck Zavkhan Province, Mongolia on July 23 at a depth of 15.0 km.^[31] This was the end of the sequence of major earthquakes in Mongolia in this year.
• A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck Jilin Province, China on August 25 at a depth of 500.0 km.^[32]
• A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Hokkaido, Japan on September 1 at a depth of 250.0 km.^[33]
• A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Calabria, Italy on September 8 at a depth of 15.0 km.^[34] Officially, the death toll appears to be 557, but some sources suggest a far higher amount. Major damage was caused.^[35][36]
• A magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck the Commander Islands, Russia on September 15 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[37]
• A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Rajasthan, India on September 26 at a depth of 60.0 km.^[38]

October–December

• A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck eastern Abkhazia on October 21 at a depth of 15.0 km.^[39]
• A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck off the south coast of Honshu, Japan on October 24 at a depth of 250.0 km.^[40]
• A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Sichuan Province, China on November 8 at an unknown depth. 13 people died, a few more were injured and some damage was caused in the province.^[41]
• A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the Aegean Sea, Greece on November 8 at a depth of 15.0 km.^[42]
• A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Malatya Province, Turkey on December 4 at a depth of 10.0 km. At least 101 people were killed and major damage was caused.^[43][44]
• A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck north of Negros, Philippines on December 8 at an unknown depth. Some damage was reported.^[45]
• A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck south of the Andreanof Islands, Alaska on December 10 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[46]
• A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the Revilla Gigedo Islands, Mexico on December 17 at a depth of 0.0 km.^[47]
