Macedonia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Macedonian entry was selected through an internal selection, organised by the Macedonian broadcaster MRT. Kaliopi represented Macedonia with the song "Crno i belo", which qualified from the second semi-final and went on to place 13th in the final, scoring 71 points.[1][2]

Internal selection

On 19 November 2011, MRT announced both confirmed Macedonia's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 and announced that singer Kaliopi was internally selected.[3] Kaliopi was previously selected to represent Macedonia in 1996 with the song "Samo ti", but was ultimately eliminated from the competition during a pre-contest qualifying round.

On 16 January 2012, MRT announced that Kaliopi had selected the song "Crno i belo" (Black and White), music by Romeo Gril and lyrics by Kaliopi, as the Macedonian entry.[4]

On 29 February, MRT aired a special presentation program, hosted by Zivkica Kalenikova, which presented the internal selection of Kaliopi and featured Kaliopi performing songs from her repertoire.[2] At the conclusion of the program, "Crno i belo" was presented to the public as well as the English version of the song.[2]

Macedonia competed in the first half of the second semi-final (2nd on stage), on 24 May 2012, following Serbia and preceding the Netherlands. Kaliopi received 53 points and placed 9th, thus qualifying for the final on 26 May.[5]

In the final, Macedonia was drawn to perform 22nd, after Malta and preceding Ireland. The Macedonian entry scored a total of 71 points and placed 13th in the final.[1]
