Mark Chao (Chinese: 趙又廷; Wade–Giles: Chao Yu-t'ing; born 25 September 1984) is a Taiwanese-Canadian actor, singer and model.[1] He is the son of Allen Chao. Mark graduated from the University of Victoria, Canada; with a double degree in sociology and economics. He started his career in the entertainment industry in Taiwan after he graduated. Mark is currently signed to Prajna Works (普拉嘉國際意像).

Career

In 2009, he starred as the main character Wu Ying Xiong in the television series Black & White, which established his fame and won Best Actor at the 44th Golden Bell Awards.

In 2010, he starred as Zhou Yi Wen in his first movie, Monga. The film became the highest grossing locally produced movie at Taiwan's box office in 2010. Mark won Best New Actor at the 5th Asian Film Awards.

In 2012, he participated in several successful movies. Love, which co-starred Mark with Zhao Wei and Shu Qi, became the highest grossing Chinese film in North America. First Time, which starred Mark together with Angelababy, topped the box office charts for two weeks consecutively. In Black & White Episode I: The Dawn of Assault, he reprised his role as Wu Ying Xiong. Mark also starred in Chen Kaige's social drama Caught in the Web.

In 2013, he participated in two hugely successful films. In April, he starred in So Young, the directorial debut of Zhao Wei and in September, he starred in Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon as the main character Di Renjie.

In 2014, Mark once again reprised his role as Wu Ying Xiong in Black & White: The Dawn of Justice, the sequel to the 2012 movie.

In May 2015, Mark was cast in Matthias Hoene's The Warriors Gate. In September, he starred in 3D action-adventure film Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe, based on the 2006 best-selling novel Ghost Blows Out the Light.

In January 2016, he was cast in Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms alongside Yang Mi. This is Mark's first television series in mainland China.

Personal life

In April 9, 2012, he was spotted on a date by paparazzi in Nanjing with Gao Yuanyuan[2] who has also participated in the movie Caught in the Web. He revealed his relationship with Gao Yuanyuan on April 17.[3] In June 5, 2014, Mark Chao and Gao Yuanyuan finished their marriage registration in Beijing.
