MeWe is a new kind of social, chat, and group space with advanced communication technology and privacy-by-design. The free service is for both one-to-one and group communication. MeWe respects the privacy of its members and it is built with no advertisements, no targeted content, no tracking, no algorithms, and no facial recognition. Unlike social sites like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, SnapChat, and Twitter, MeWe member data is not analyzed and aggregated into a permanent record database called a "data packet." MeWe offers an array of features to enhance its user's experience including customizable news feeds, a unique custom camera, disappearing content, voice messaging, GIF and MEME creators, secret chat with encryption, personal social cloud, multiple/custom group profiles, private and open groups, 1,800+ emojis. The site also offers custom emojis and an enterprise version called MeWePRO.

History

Mark Weinstein is the Founder and CEO of MeWe. Mark is a leading privacy advocate, one of the early inventors of social networking, and an award-winning author. In 1998 he founded Supergroups, Inc., whose flagship websites, SuperFamily and SuperFriends, were called "community portals" at the time, and were precursors to today’s social and chat networks. Both sites became PC Magazine “Top 100” ranked sites and were eventually sold to a hedge fund that closed then them during the dot com bust of the early 2000s.

In 2010 Mark Zuckerberg declared that “privacy is a social norm of the past,” and that comment angered Weinstein greatly. It sparked him to create the Sgrouples beta project, and in 2012 he relocated to Silicon Valley and hired an engineering team to design and build the world’s first social network with privacy-by-design. Assisting as the co-founder of the Sgrouples project was Dr. Jonathan Wolfe, whom Weinstein had first hired in 1998. The Sgrouples beta project served as the testing platform for the eventual launch of MeWe, which made its official launch out of beta during SXSW 2016 (South by Southwest), and was honored as the 2016 Start-Up of the Year Finalist for “Innovative World Technology.” In October 2016, MeWe was selected by Entrepreneur Magazine as "one of the best entrepreneurial companies in America." Mark has been joined at MeWe by top executives and world-renowned thought leaders serving on MeWe’s Advisory Board, including the inventor of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee.

About The Founder

Mark Weinstein is one of the founders of social networks and is one of the world’s leading privacy advocates. He is listed as one of the "Top 8 Minds in Online Privacy." He served as a Steering Committee Member of National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) – an Obama White House initiative, and has been named Privacy by Design Ambassador by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, Canada.

Mark is a Huffington Post technology blogger and has written about privacy and the social media industry in well-known publications such as USA Today, InfoSecurity Magazine, Daily Mirror (UK), Dark Reading, and many others.
