Monique Evans (born January 17, 1992) is an American beauty pageant titleholder from Austin, Texas, who was named Miss Texas 2014. She competed for the Miss America 2015 title in September 2014 and placed in the Top 16 as a semi-finalist.

Career

Evans won the Miss Austin 2011 crown and placed 8th at the Miss Texas 2011 pageant.[2][3] Evans was named Miss Hunt County 2012 on October 29, 2011, and placed 11th at the Miss Texas 2012 competition.[4][5] Evans won the 2013 Miss Dallas competition but was not a Top 5 finalist during the Miss Texas 2013 pageant.[6][7] In July 2013, Gulfshore Life magazine named her one of three finalists in their "Model of the Year" contest for amateur models with ties to Southwest Florida.[8][9]

In November 2013, Evans earned the title of Miss Park Cities 2014 and the right to compete for the Miss Texas 2014 crown.[10] Evans is a professionally trained ballerina, and her 2014 Miss Texas competition talent was performing ballet en pointe to "Requiem for a Tower".[11][12] Evans won the Miss Texas title on July 5, 2014, when she received her crown from outgoing titleholder Ivana Hall at the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson, Texas.[11][13] Prizes for winning Miss Texas include a $10,000 cash scholarship, a wardrobe by fashion designer Vince Camuto, and use of an automobile from Grubbs Infiniti in Euless, Texas, while she holds the title.[13]

As Miss Texas 2014, Evans competed to be crowned Miss America 2015 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on Sunday, September 14, 2014.[11][14] Her platform, "Remember Your Heart: One Beat at a Time", focused on heart disease prevention and was inspired by cardiac issues in her immediate family.[4][14] She placed in the Top 16 as a semi-finalist. During her year of service, Evans made a record-setting 470 appearances as Miss Texas.[15]

Personal life

Evans was born in Laguna Beach, California, and grew up in Naples, Florida.[3] She is a 2010 graduate of Naples High School.[16][17] As of July 2014, she is living in Austin, Texas, while studying nutritional science as a pre-med student at the University of Texas at Austin.[17] She is a member of the Delta chapter of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.[18] Evans' parents are Don Evans, a retired investment advisor, and Machelle Evans, an interior designer.[19] They have lived in Naples, Florida, since 1998. Evans' older sister is Martine Evans.[19] Her older brother Hunter Evans was born with Shone's syndrome, a rare congenital heart disease.[4][17] Saxon "Rowdy" Evans, a student at the University of Florida, is her younger brother.[19]
