Nashik Road (Marathi नाशिकरोड) (sometimes referred to as Nasik Road) is the name given to the suburb of Nashik that has the city's railway station. The name 'Nashik Road' was originally used for the town surrounding the station (about 8 km or 5 miles south-west from the heart of the Nashik city) and parts of the adjoining Deolali village, but has been administratively merged with the Nashik Municipal Corporation since 1984. Nashik Road is home to almost 150,000 residents and is one of the fastest growing suburbs of Nashik.[1]
Geography
Nashik Road is a fast developing city suburb of Nashik and has many hotels and restaurants, educational institutions (St. Xaviers High School, St. Philomena's Convent High School, Purushottam English School, K.N.Kela Progressive, R.J.C. Bytco Girls School, Kothari Kanya Shala, Jairambhai, K.J. Mehta etc.), hospitals and financial institutions (Business co-op Bank, The Nasik Road Deolali Vyapari Sahakari Bank Ltd., SBI, ICICI Bank etc.) catering to the growing educational and financial needs of the population.
Transportation
Dattamandir, Andhashala, Gandharvanagari, Shikhrewadi, Jailroad, Gaykhe mala, Jai Bhavani road, Upanagar are major residential areas. Shirdi of Saibaba is near from Nashik Road, woth frequency of 15 min. tourist vehicles travels to shirdi.
Road
The Mumbai-Agra highway (NH3), Nashik-Pune highway (NH 50),Peth Road, Wani road, Bhagur-Nashik road (Lam road), Jail Road are some of the major roads in the city, alongside the residential and commercial neighbourhoods. The first and only road flyover of the city (named 'Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar flyover') is in Nashik Road over the NH 50 and has helped reduce the traffic congestion in peak hours in the area.
Railway
Nashik Road railway station was built by Mr.Bhagwant Singh Kapoor's construction company who resides at Prakash Bhavan, Punjabi Colony, Nasik Road. This railway station is an important stop for trains on the Mumbai-Bhusawal-Delhi and Mumbai-Bhusawal-Nagpur-Kolkata Central Railway routes. Heavy passenger traffic is a daily feature of the Nashik Road-Mumbai railway sector.Recently a new train has been started between Nashik - Pune, which was a great issue since last 30 years. also the new train start from Nashik to Mumbai that is Rajya Rani Express in 2011.
Air
Nashik Road also hosts Nashik's airport (operated in conjunction with the Indian Air Force) that provides rapid (50 minute) air access to Mumbai.
Tourism
Muktidham and Bhaktidham,a marble temple complex honoring various Hindu is a popular tourist attraction. Mhasoba Mandir at Andha sala is also known as Temple of Bell, A very beautiful Shri Icchamani Ganesh Temple is at Upnagar area of Nasik Road. The city Railway station is located in Nasik road which is one of the important junctions in Maharashtra. The famous Infant Jesus Shrine is located here. The shrine houses an idol of Infant Jesus, which is found only in Yugoslavia other than here. An annual fair is held in the month of February.[2] Triambakeshwar, one of the holy places of not only Maharashtra but the whole India is near Nashik. Triambakeshwar is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. The reasons for its being so sacred are: Godavari river originates from this place; its a place of Tri-Sandhya Gayatri; the birthplace of Lord Ganesha; a place of the first Nath of Nath Sampradaya consisting of Gorakhnath and others; a place where Nivrittinath was made to imbibe the holy knowledge by his Guru Gahininath; and also a place where Nivrittinath made his brothers and sister attain the self by his preaching.[3] Due to these unique reasons, this place is revered by Hindus.
Education
Nashik Road has a number of educational institutions - St. Xavier's High School, Bytco College of Commerce, Science and Arts, S.V.K.T. College,[4] popularly known as Bhatia College.
Economy
The India Security Press (the National treasury press) was the biggest employer in Nashik Road for many decades until the late eighties when a service-based economy started to thrive.
The existence of the India Security Press is very beneficial to Nashik Road citizens, not only it provided employment to thousands of residents for the past few decades and spawned the surrounding economy but also because it has kept the green canopy in the city protected. It also has an adjoining Gymkhana and a large playground, which is a favorite games/exercise spot for children and adults alike.
In recent days, the government has decided to prepare IT parks in the city of Nasik Road. When these IT parks will be ready, there will be a great boost to Information Technology sector in Nashik. There are many industries like Mahindra and Mahindra an automobile industry,MICO Bosch are located at Satpur.Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is a fighter aircraft manufacturing company at Ojhar(mig) 20 km from Nashik at east side.
