New Chandigarh, located near the town of Mullanpur Garibdass in the vicinity of Chandigarh,[2][3] is a new settlement designed as Punjab's first "smart city".[4][5]
First Eco City of Punjab
GMADA, the local planning authority of Greater Mohali Region had declared Mullanpur as first Eco & Smart City of Punjab.[6] Mullanpur will be part of New Chandigarh. New Chandigarh will be composed of 32 villages. The first phase of this town has already been declared and land acquisition and plot allotment process has been started. It will host many parks and tourist places. The master plan of the city is prepared by Singapore-based company Jurong International. This city will primarily as residential city with high living. This city will host nonpolluting industries like Information Technology and Hospitals. Some Software companies has already purchased land here.
Apart from the major player GMADA, which has already started the land acquisition and plot allotment process, there are many private players.
DLF is planning to set up a 1,000-acre township. The company has acquired 400 acres of land for the first phase; acquisition for the second phase will begin shortly. Unitech Group and Altus Space Builders are also developing residential townships. Other developers include the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), Ansals and Rahejas.
