Piedmont is a ghost town in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. It was located between the Weaver Mountains and the Date Creek Mountains of central-west Arizona, on Date Creek Road (Yavapai Route 62). It was near the ghost towns of Congress and Hillside. All that remains of the town is the sign, along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.
In fiction
Michael Crichton's novel, The Andromeda Strain, is partially set in Piedmont, Arizona, the entire population of which is killed by an extraterrestrial virus. However, it is unlikely that Crichton's Piedmont is related to the real Piedmont in any way, as the book places the town south of Las Vegas, east of San Bernardino and west of Phoenix, and also at a spot with "no important area of habitation for a radius of nearly one hundred and twelve miles", which would place it very roughly some 40 miles east of Lake Havasu in a barren mountain area.
