Quéménéven Parish close

The Quéménéven Parish close comprising the parish church, a triumphal arch and calvary is located in the arrondisement of Châteaulin in Finistère in Brittany.

The Église Saint-Ouen

This, the Quéménéven parish church and originally dating back to 1786, was reconstructed between 1860 and 1861. The church has a nave of three bays with aisles, a transept and choir.^[1]

The stained glass window known as the "Crucifixion" window

A 16th-century stained glass window depicts the "Passion of Jesus Christ".^[1]

The porch

In a niche above the porch entrance is a statue of Saint Ouen.^[1]

Statuary

The church has statues of Saint Méen in the attire of a bishop, Saint Peter, Saint Guénolé (a polychromed woodcarving dating to the 16th century), Saint Enéour, Saint Ouen and Saint Lawrence.^[1]Méen was a Breton saint, thought to be Cornish or Welsh in origin.

The Notre-Dame de Kergoat chapel

Near to the parish church is this 16th-century chapel which has various stained glass windows and contains statues of Sainte Marguerite, Sainte Barbe, Saint Joseph, Saint Francis, Saint Mathurin, John the Baptist with the Virgin Mary. Some other statues have been moved to the musée de Quimper. i.e.Saint Sébastien, Saint Roch, Sainte Marie Madeleine, Sainte Barbe, the Virgin Mary and an "Ecce Homo".^[1]

The calvaries of the enclos

There are two calvaries, that by the parish church and that by the Kergoat chapel.

The Calvary of the Kergoat chapel is 6.50 metres in height. It includes a table to accommodate offerings. Statues include those of John the Baptist, Saint Guénolé, and John the Evangelist, and a Vierge de Pitié.

The Calvary attached to the parish church is 6 metres in height and statues of John the Evangelist and the Virgin Mary are back to back with the people in the Pietà. At the summit of the Calvary a depiction of the crucifixion includes an angel touching Jesus' hair.^[2]

The pardon de Kergoat

The Kergoat pardon was immortalised by the painter Jules Breton in 1891 with the painting "Le Pardon de Kergoat", This painting is held in the Quimper Musée des beaux-arts.
