Biography

Early career

Régis Schultz holds a master of finance from the Paris Dauphine University (1992).

Régis Schultz started his career as financial controller for Orangina in 1993, then a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard. In 1997, he became chief financial officer of Pampryl, also part of the Pernod Ricard group. In 2000, he joined Castorama as chief financial officer, and became deputy general manager in 2002, supervising logistics, IT, HR and business development. In 2005, he moved overseas and became head of strategy of development for Kingfisher.[1] Shortly after, in June 2005, Régis Schultz became financial officer of UK’s home retailer B&Q. He restructured its organization, became sales manager in 2005, and redefined the company’s sales strategy.[2][3]

CEO of BUT

In October 2008, Régis Schultz became CEO of BUT, a major French furniture retailer in decline and recently acquired by Colony Capital and Goldman Sachs. As head of the company, he digitalized But’s stores, introduced new store formats, and revived its profitability.[4]

BUT sold 25 of its stores for 200 million euros, thus unloading most of the company’s debt.[5] It opened BUT City and BUT Cosy stores, the retailer’s new store formats, fully modernized its inventory, and equipped all the employees with connected touch pads.[6] The company’s first ecommerce website was launched[7] and a system managing performance and sales data across the entire network of retail outlets was implemented.[8]

Under Régis Schultz’s tenure, BUT’s sales grew 7% every year, hitting 1.8 billion euros in 2011.[9]

CEO of Darty

In April 2013, Régis Schultz became CEO of Darty, Europe's third-largest electrical goods retailer.[10] He was in charge of managing the company’s reorganization, a strategy code-named "Nouvelle Confiance" which includes the "4D" plan : drive trading, digitalize Darty, develop the brand and deliver cost efficiency.[11]

With Régis Schultz as CEO, Darty’ stores were digitalized and a new pricing policy was applied to better compete with low-cost offers. Same-day delivery was added to customer service, and the "Darty button", a home device that directly connects customers and Darty, was launched.[12][13] Darty started a franchise program to target smaller population catchment areas, and developed a multichannel strategy to grow sales.[14][15] An online marketplace similar to Amazon’s was launched to maintain the brand’s leadership on the Web.[12][16] The French online retailer Mistergooddeal was acquired, enabling Darty to set a foot in the low cost market.[17]

Régis Schultz is tagged as the architect of Darty’s turnaround.[18] Net results went from 38 million euros in 2013[19] to 93 million in 2016,[20] and the share price moved from 40p when he joined Darty to 170p 3 years later.[21] After Fnac’s acquisition of Darty in April 2016, Régis Schultz left Darty’s head of French operations, but remained CEO of the group Darty plc.[22]

President of Monoprix

On 22 August 2016, Régis Schultz became president of the French retail chain Monoprix and member of the executive committee of the Groupe Casino.[23]
