"Stay" is a song written and recorded by David Bowie in 1975 for the album Station to Station, released in January the following year. In July 1976, the song was released as a single by RCA in the United States The length of the album version of "Stay" is 6:15.
The verse and chorus structures can be traced back to "John, I'm Only Dancing (Again)", a track recorded for the Young Americans album but first released (as a single) in 1979.[2]

- A live version recorded at Nassau Coliseum, Long Island, New York on 23 March 1976 was released as a bonus track on the Rykodisc CD release of Station to Station in 1991. It also appears on the 2010 reissues of Station to Station.[3]
- A concert performance recorded in spring 1978 was released on the 2005 reissue of the live album Stage.[3]
- A live recording made at the BBC Radio Theatre, London, England on 27 June 2000 was released on the bonus disc accompanying the first releases of Bowie at the Beeb.[3]

- It was released as the B-side of "Suffragette City" in July 1976.[3]
- The single version also appeared on the Christiane F. soundtrack.
