Stella Márquez Zawadski-Araneta (née Márquez Zawadski often styled as Madame Stella Marquez Araneta born 1937 in Tumaco, Nariño, Colombia) is a Colombian director and beauty queen who was crowned the first Miss International in 1960. Araneta is the Charge d' Affaires of the Honorary Consulate of Colombia to the Philippines in Manila, as well as the Chairwoman of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Incorporated.
Miss International
Márquez is a Colombian woman of Spanish and Polish heritage. She became Miss Colombia in 1959 and was therefore able to compete in the Miss Universe 1960 pageant held in Miami Beach, Florida placing as a top 15 semi-finalist. She then competed in the first Miss International pageant held in Long Beach, California, in 1960, becoming the first Miss International, and also the first Latin American titleholder.[2]
Binibining Pilipinas
She married Jorge Araneta, a Filipino businessman. Since 1964, she has been the organizer of Binibining Pilipinas (Filipino, "Miss Philippines"), which sends its winners to the Miss Universe and Miss International competitions. Currently, Binibining Pilipinas owns the franchise of Miss Universe, Miss International, Miss Supranational, Miss Intercontinental, Miss Grand International, and Miss Globe. She was assigned by her father-in-law Jay Amado Araneta to the post.[3] She is currently Charge d' Affaires of the Honorary Consulate of Colombia to the Philippines in Manila.
Inducted To The Eastwood City Walk Of Fame
She is inducted to the Eastwood City Walk Of Fame in Quezon City, Philippines in 2013, and also she's the 1st & only Female Colombian Beauty Queen inducted in the Eastwood City Walk Of Fame Philippines.
