Thathal
Thathal (pronounced [t̪ʰət̪ʰaːl ]), also referred to as Thothal (pronounced [t̪ʰoːt̪ʰaːl ]) and Thathiyal (pronounced [t̪ʰət̪ʰiːaːl ]), is a Jat clan, in districts such as Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, where they are prominent.[1] Prior to partition there were Hindu and Sikh Thathals in Chakwal District but migrated to India in districts such as Shimla in Himachel Pradesh.[2]
Notable People
- Chaudhry Noor Hussain, one of the pioneer leaders of the Kashmiri freedom movement.[3][4]
- Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry Thathal, made history in 1996 by becoming the first Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from the Mirpur, Azad Kashmir region.[5]
- Sardars of Vahali, in 1909 they were the largest landowners in the province and members of the family served in the administrations of several rulers of Punjab and Kashmir.[6]
