Vellamunda is a gram panchayat situated near Mananthavady, it is famous for banasura hills and banasura Sagar earth dam, which is the largest of its kind in India. Water from Banasura Sagar Dam is pumped into Kakkayam reservoir for kuttiady power project. Vellamunda is also known as Veliyarenna.^[1]
