Viggiano is a town and comune in the province of Potenza, in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata. It is bounded by the comuni of Calvello, Corleto Perticara, Grumento Nova, Laurenzana, Marsicovetere, Montemurro.
Viggiano is known to be land of migrant street musicians who brought their music in Italy and worldwide through the centuries, as well as renowned for the construction of the harps.[2] Many viggianesi had the opportunity to play in many symphonic orchestras in Europe, United States and Australia. The street musicians from Viggiano are cited as an influence on Hector Malot's Sans Famille.[3]
