Western Pride Football Club is a soccer club based in Ipswich, Queensland. They participate in the NPL Queensland, which was established in 2012 to replace the Queensland State League.[1] The club was founded in 2012 by a new entity called Football Ipswich to represent the Greater Ipswich Region and surrounding Western Corridor.[2]

Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale promised in August 2013 to build a 15,000 seat stadium at North Ipswich Oval if a licence for the A-league was secured.[3] The club's local popularity could emulate the success to that of Sydney-based club Western Sydney Wanderers.[4] Football Federation Australia has identified Ipswich as an expansion area.[5]

2013 season

Western Pride FC finished eighth in their inaugural season, with 27 points (8 wins and 3 draws) from 22 games.

2014 season

Coach Kasey Wehrman resigned in July 2014 to return home to Norway after two seasons at Ipswich.[6]

2015 season

In October 2014, former A-League player Karl Dodd accepted the position of Head Coach of the Western Pride FC Senior Men's Team in the National Premier League (Qld). Former Matilda Karla Reuter signed on as Assistant Manager of the Men's team.

Dodd lead the team to an impressive start to the season, however in June 2015 was recruited by Brisbane Roar FC to take up a position as the High Performance Manager.[7]

Dodd was replaced by former Whitsunday Miners FC coach Graham Harvey.[8]

2016 season

In 18 May 2016 Pride Men played the New Zealand national football team at Briggs Rd Sporting Complex as part of the visitors preparations for the OFC Nations Cup.

New Zealand prevailed 2–0 in front of a crowd of 1,200 fans.[9][10]

Pride Men signed Papua New Guinea international Nigel Dabingyaba late in the season, who became the first current international to play in the NPL Queensland competition.

Pride Men finished 10th after a last day win away at Olympic FC saw them jump above Sunshine Coast Fire.

Two of Pride's 2016 squad were signed by Brisbane Roar's Youth team. Hayden Mchenery signed mid-season after 12 months at Pride where he rebuilt his career after suffering Osteitis pubis.[11] Joe Duckworth signed at the end of the season after top scoring for Pride with 11 goals in 21 appearances.[12]

Pride Women went into the NPL Queensland Women season having lost most of their senior squad, instead relying on a far younger squad with half the first team squad turning 16 during the season.

Pride Women finished 8th, equaling their 2015 league placing but greatly improving their goal difference and goals against statistics.

2017 season

Former Australia women's national soccer team goalkeeper Belinda Kitching was appointed manager of the Senior Women side during the off-season.[13]
