The 2012–13 Chicago Bulls season was the 47th season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Team captain and All-Star point guard Derrick Rose did not play at all this year due to surgery on his left knee, though he was cleared to play in March. Despite his absence, the Bulls still managed a 45-37 record as the Number 5 seed in the East. The Bulls met the Brooklyn Nets in the first round, their first meeting since 1998, when the Nets were in New Jersey at the time. They won the series in seven games to advance to the next round to face the defending champion Miami Heat. However, the Heat would eventually win the series in five games, knocking the Bulls out of the playoffs.
