Ahmed Yasin Ghani (Arabic: احمد ياسين غني; [ˈjɑːsiːn]), born 22 April 1991, is an Iraqi footballer of feyli descent who plays as a midfielder for AIK.,.[1][2] On 15 October 2012, he was the only Iraqi player chosen by IFFHS to be in "The World's Most Popular Footballer Amongst Currently Active Players in 2012" list, from Asia. [3]
Club career
Early football life
Ahmed Yasin started playing football at a young age after he saw his three older brothers playing it. He first learnt football from his brother Salar, who was a football player and a coach. Ahmed's talents started showing when he joined BK Forward at age of sixteen.
BK Forward
Ahmed started his career in football by joining BK Forward in 2007, a Swedish club in the city of Örebro which plays in the Swedish 3rd division. He started with the youth teams of the club and after a year he made his debut with the first team. After the 2009 season, he was close with signing with clubs like Halmstads BK, and other clubs from Portugal. [4]
Ahmed has scored 7 goals with BK Forward, and assisted so many others. In fact, he was one of the most important talents of Örebro.
Futsal team
Ahmed was the captain of the futsal team of BK Forward. Under his direction, BK Forward won the Mariedal Cup in 2010. Ahmed was one of the best players of the tournament, he also scored many goals, including two in the final.[5]
Örebro SK
In 2010, at age of 19 Ahmed signed a 4-year contract with Örebro SK, making him an official player with the club until 2014. Ahmed made his first official debut with the first team on 6 May 2011, against Kalmar FF in the Allsvenskan. .[6]
In his first season, he played six games in the Allsvenskan and one in the Svenska Cupen. He made his European debut on 21 July against FK Sarajevo. Ahmed played 10 minutes and his team lost the game with 2–0. Ahmed scored his first goal for Örebro in the Svenska Cupen, he scored the equalizer in the 12th minute against Ljungskile SK. He also played more than 15 friendly matches, scoring more than 5 unofficial goals.
Because of his good play in his high skills, he is called the Örebro Talent.[7]
Although in the first season he played 4 times only in the league, the next season was the real start for him. He had played more games in 2012, and eventually he became one of the main players of the first team. [8]
Beside the league, Ahmed has scored 2 goals in 1 game in the Svenska Cupen, making it his third official goal with ÖSK. [9]
International career
Sweden U17
In 2009, Ahmed was selected to be part of the Swedish Under-17 national football team.[4] He did not participate in any match with the team. Later, he had the chance to represent the Under-19 Swedish football team, but he chose to continue his international career with Iraq.
Olympic football team
Ahmed made his debut for the Iraq Olympic football team on 16 June 2011, in a friendly match against Qatar. He was very important in the game, partly thanks to him Iraq won the game with 2–1. After that match, the coach was impressed by him, and called him up again officially for the team to play in the Olympic qualifiers. He became the best player in the team in the qualifiers. Iraq did not qualify to the 2012 Olympics, due to an administrative punishment from FIFA.
Iraq
In June 2011 he and some other European-based players, were called up to train with the Iraq national football team. They were chosen among forty Iraqi players that play in the European leagues. When he arrived in Iraq he got a lot of attention. He played several friendly matches against Iraqi clubs.
During his stay in Iraq, he also trained with Baghdad based club Al Talaba. They were so impressed by his play that they offered him a contract, but he refused because he already had a contract with Örebro SK and was not willing to leave the Allsvenskan.[10]
In February 2012 after playing very good with the Olympic side, Zico called him up for the game against Singapore, although he was unable to join the team because of a lack of time for preparations.[11]
Later, Ahmed Yasin was named in a 33-man squad list by Zico for a training camp to be help in Turkey in Iraq's preparations for the final round of qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup to be held in Brazil. He was later dropped ahead of the matches against Jordan and Oman.
On 24 June 2012, Ahmed Yasin made his first international appearance for Iraq's first team in an international friendly game against Lebanon which was part of the 2012 Arab Nations Cup hosted in Saudi Arabia. He came on as a substitute for Karrar Jassim in the 32nd minute of the match. He made his first start for the team in Iraq's match against Sudan.
On 11 September 2012, Ahmed Yasin made his first appearance in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Japan as a starter wearing the number 9 shirt. He played a good match and created several good goalscoring chances, although the match ended in a 1–0 win for Japan.
On 29 December 2014, Yasin was included in Iraq's squad for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.[12] In the team's third group match, he scored Iraq's second goal as they defeated Palestine 2–0 to qualify for the knockout stage.[13] In the quarter-final match against Iran, Yasin scored Iraq's first goal as they drew 3–3 at Canberra Stadium and eventually prevailed 7–6 on a penalty shootout.[14]

Personal lifeAhmed Yasin is a Feyli and was born in Baghdad. He lived with his family in the famous Falastin Street of Baghdad. His family which is originally from northern Iraq, has moved to Baghdad in the mid seventies. Yasin Ghani, who is the father of Ahmed, has his own business. At the age of three, in 1994, Ahmed and his family moved to Sweden, because of the economical issues that faced Iraq. His elder brothers, Salar, Araz and Zaid also played for Örebro SK, and just like them, he started playing at age of five. In 2011 Ahmed returned for the first time to Iraq, after he was called up for the national team by the coach Sidka. Ahmed joined school in Örebro at age of five. in 2010, he has graduated from high school, and started his professional career in football. Currently, Ahmed lives alone in his apartment, in Örebro and his family has moved back to Iraq. Beside football, Ahmed likes other sports which he plays in free time, like boxing and tennis.
