Châteauroux-Centre "Marcel Dassault" Airport French: Aéroport de Châteauroux-Centre "Marcel Dassault" (IATA: CHR, ICAO: LFLX) is an airport serving the French city of Châteauroux.[1] The airport is Located at the heart of Europe and in the centre of France, 5.5 km (3.0 NM) north-northeast of Châteauroux[1] in Déols, a commune of the Indre department in the Centre region in France.
It was formerly known as Châteauroux-Déols "Marcel Dassault" Airport (Aéroport Chateauroux-Deols "Marcel Dassault"). The airport is named for Marcel Dassault and is located on the site of the former Châteauroux-Déols Air Base. The airport supports aviation industry uses including cargo, pilot training, airports firemans training, aircraft maintenance, aircraft painting, aircraft storage, aircraft dismantling and recycling.
Facilities
The airport resides at an elevation of 529 feet (161 m) above mean sea level. It has one paved runway designated 03/21 which measures 3,500 by 45 metres (11,483 ft × 148 ft).[1]
The Châteauroux-Centre Airport is dedicated to freight. Its essentially industrial vocation explains why its operations are so efficient and its costs so competitive.
It is a transit airport, supported by a simple and rapid road transport system to Paris and other major European capitals, many of which can be reached within eight hours by truck.
The airport's infrastructure can handle all types of aircraft and all types of goods – Rapid management of import-export goods traffic – No waiting – No slot – Immediate taxiing and operations. Open 24/24 and 7/7. Night hours require two hours' notice. No slot – Direct access by the A20 motorway.
The airport's location south of Paris makes it a destination of choice for traffic from southern countries (such as those of the Mediterranean basin, Africa and the Indian Ocean), particularly for exporters of perishable goods for whom the savings in reduced flying times can equal up to 20% of rotation costs. The 40 hectares (99 acres) of parking facilities allow for the storage of about 50 medium- and large-capacity commercial aircraft.
The airport has an important zone of aircraft maintenance on which are installed, in 2016, the following companies:
- ATE - Air Livery : has the skills and facilities for painting aircraft of all types, from flying club planes to the largest passenger or freight aircraft, and those of every manufacturer – such as Airbus and ATR. ATE has a permanent workforce of 80 people at its site in Châteauroux, most of them painters and surface preparation teams.
The company has four paint workshops of which the largest takes Airbus A340 and Boeing 777.
- Bartin Recycling : a subsidiary of VEOLIA and the Vallière Aviation Group, has the only aircraft dismantling facility in Europe that is certified ISO 14001. A workforce of 20 people dismantles and recycles aircraft in conditions that meet the highest standards of protection of the environment and for ensuring security regarding the re-use of aeronautical parts. The company also optimises the volume and value of the raw materials salvaged from planes at the end of their life cycle.
- Dale Aviation Ltd : specialized in the aircraft line maintenance Airbus and Boeing. Dale Aviation also provides storage with operational maintenance of aircraft and can ensure appropriate dismantling aircraft at end of life .
- Egide Aviation : specialized in the maintenance and the repair of aircraft of less than 5,700 kilograms (12,600 lb) and the follow-up of airworthiness.
- Vallair Technic : specializes in the dismantling of aircraft at end of life with recovery and repair of components for the maintenance market. Vallair Technic is a partner of maintenance centers and airlines for aircraft cargo conversion needs and spare parts.
Châteauroux-Centre Airport is Europe's premier pilot training site for take-off and landing procedures, performed further to theoretical training on flight simulators. A large number of French and European airlines, along with the French Air Force and aircraft manufacturer Airbus, carry out more than 20,000 Touch & Go manoeuvres at Châteauroux-Centre Airport every year, and in optimum safety conditions. Fire & Rescue Services Training: The C2FPA was jointly created by 35 French airports and the Association of French Airports (UAF). The centre based at Châteauroux is unique in Europe for both the high quality of its non-polluting simulator and for its ICAO-certified training programme. It offers airport fire and rescue services both initial and ongoing training for fire and rescue and for the prevention of animal hazards.
