He was a member of the Peru national football team that finished in third place at the 2015 Copa América.

Club career

Cueva spent his early career in his native Peru with Universidad San Martín and Universidad César Vallejo.[2][1] In January 2013 he was close to signing for Brazilian club Ponte Preta,[3] but later that month he moved to Chilean club Unión Española.[4]

He signed on loan for Spanish club Rayo Vallecano in August 2013.[5]

Cueva returned to Peru with Alianza Lima in 2014.[1] In July 2015, he signed for Mexican club Toluca.[6]

On 2 June 2016, Cueva signed a four-year contract with Brazilian side São Paulo FC. Because of his calling up for Peruvian team for Copa América Centenario, Cueva joined his new side after the international competition.[7]
