Dulwich College Suzhou (DCSZ) (Chinese: 苏州德威英国国际学校; pinyin: Sūzhōu Déwēi Yīngguó Guójì Xuéxiào) is a private international school located in Suzhou Industrial Park, Suzhou, China. The school has approximately 900 students from age 2 to 18 (Early Learning 1 to Year 13), with over forty different nationalities represented in our diverse student body.

Dulwich College Suzhou is part of the Dulwich College International (DCI) network of schools. Dulwich College in London is one of the UK's oldest independent schools, founded in South London as a boys’ school in 1619. Dulwich College International (DCI) was established to bring the Dulwich education to students around the world and is now one of the fastest growing UK independent school networks. Through DCI, Dulwich College has been in Asia for more than ten years, building bridges between Eastern and Western communities and delivering high academic results and a well-rounded education.

Dulwich College Suzhou was the third College to join the Dulwich family of schools in 2007. The Dulwich network currently provides for over 7,200 students in eight cities and five countries, with Colleges in London, two campuses in the Jinqiao and Minhang districts of Shanghai, in Beijing, Suzhou, Seoul, Singapore and Yangon and International High Schools in Suzhou and Zhuhai.


The College

Dulwich College Suzhou opened in August 2007. The primary teaching language is English, with a Dual Language approach in Mandarin and English in DUCKS. From DUCKS through to Year 9 they follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales, enhanced for international needs. In Year 10 students begin the two-year International GSCE syllabus followed by the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Years 12 and 13.

DUCKS

The Dulwich Kindergarten, known as DUCKS, caters to the youngest students from Early Learning 1 to Year 2 (age 2 to 7 years). In DUCKS their approach to learning is student-centred and cross-curricular. Their inquiry-based learning model nurtures learning dispositions and engages students in topics in which they express interest. Children learn how to communicate their ideas and listen to others, to solve problems and to persevere with relevant tasks.

The DUCKS school environment is specially designed to meet the needs of the youngest students. Outdoor learning is encouraged to develop children's curiosity and to nurture confident young learners who take pride in their achievements.

Junior School

The aim in Junior School is to ensure that all the children are happy, confident and enthusiastic learners. An appropriate and balanced academic challenge enables student to realise their unique potential in a supportive environment. The Junior School students engage in topic-based learning, a cross-curricular approach that integrates different subject matter under an umbrella topic/area of interest. Students have dedicated English and maths lessons and specialist teachers for Mandarin, physical education, art, design technology and music but where possible, the learning in these subjects is also linked to the topic area.

A stimulating and creative curriculum is offered giving students more autonomy, allowing them to take ownership and responsibility for their learning. Regular assessments track student progress to ensure that every child achieves to the best of their abilities.

Senior School

The aim of the Senior School is to develop confident, thoughtful, outward-looking young people. There is a rigorous academic programme but the College believes that successful students are not defined solely by their attainment in tests and exams. Their programme of study allows students to maintain breadth as well as depth, based on the National Curriculum for England and Wales leading up to the IGCSE syllabus and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is an internationally recognised programme that provides opportunity for collaboration and student-led, in-depth research into areas of interest.

Their Co-Curricular Activity programme provides opportunities for students to excel in sports and performing arts and all students are encouraged to take part in a service project or join a community group.

Headmaster

The first Headmaster of the school was Nicholas Magnus who was Headmaster for five years from the founding until 2012. Nicholas Magnus left to found Dulwich College Singapore which opened in August 2014.

The current Headmaster of the school is David Porritt, who joined the College in August 2016 having most recently been Headteacher within The British School in The Netherlands. Stuart Bridge is Head of Senior School, Ruth Whymark is Head of Junior School and Melody Stuckey is Head of Ducks (Early Years).

School Uniform

The uniform is standardised in Dulwich College International schools, including Dulwich College Suzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and other schools. All students (excluding toddlers) at Dulwich are required to wear the school uniform.[1] The school uniform is different for warm and cold weather.
