Guglielmo Arena (born 23 December 1973) is an Italian football manager and a former footballer who is the current manager of Dubai CSC of the UAE First Division League.[1]

Managerial career

Guglielmo Arena obtained successfully his UEFA coaching qualifications with the Swiss Football Association at the Haute école fédérale de sport de Macolin HEFSM. He has had a successful managerial career with various clubs across the globe like ASFA Yennenga of Burkina Faso, Tonnerre d'Abomey FC of Benin, COD Meknès and Ittihad Khemisset of Morocco, Étoile FC of Singapore, CR Belouizdad of Algeria, Al-Urooba Club of the United Arab Emirates and Fanja SC of Oman, Hangzhou Greentown of China in Chinese Super League.

ASFA Yennenga

He began his managerial career in Burkina Faso with the country's most successful club, ASFA Yennenga. He led the Ouagadougou-based club to win the Burkinabé Premier League in 2003-04 and achieve the runners-up place in the 2003 Coupe du Faso.

Team Vaud Riviera

In 2005, he moved back to his birthplace Switzerland and began managing Riviera-based club Team Vaud Riviera's U-16 squad. A season later, he was appointed as the manager of the U-14 side of the same club.

Tonnerre d'Abomey

In 2007, he again made a move out of Switzerland to Benin where he was appointed as the manager of Abomey-based club Tonnerre d'Abomey FC. He led the Beninese club to win the Benin Premier League in 2007-08.

COD Meknès

After a two-years stint in Benin, he moved to North Africa where he was appointed as the manager Moroccan-club COD Meknès.

Ittihad Khemisset

After a six-months stint in Meknes, he moved to Khemisset where he was appointed as the manager of Ittihad Khemisset.

Étoile FC

In 2010, he moved to Southeast Asia where he was appointed as the manager of Singaporean club Étoile FC.[2]

CR Belouizdad

In 2012, he came back to North Africa and this time to Algeria where he was appointed as the manager of Algiers-based club CR Belouizdad.

Al-Urooba

In 2012, he moved to the Middle East where he was appointed as the manager of United Arab Emirates's club Al-Urooba Club.

Fanja

Fanja SC

On 9 April 2014, he arrived in Oman and he signed a six-months contract to be appointed as the manager of Fanja SC.[3] He led the runners-up of the 2012–13 Oman Elite League to the second position in the 2013–14 Oman Professional League and to win the 2013 Sultan Qaboos Cup. These achievements helped him sign a one-year contract extension with the Oman Professional League club in May 2014.[4]

Hangzhou Greentown

On 1 January 2015, he was appointed as the assistant coach (to Philippe Troussier) of Chinese Super League club, Hangzhou Greentown F.C.

Dibba Al-Hisn

In February 2016, he moved back to the Middle East and more accurately to the United Arab Emirates where on 6 February, he signed a contract to be appointed as the head coach of UAE First Division League side, Dibba Al-Hisn Sports Club until the end of the 2015-16 season.

Dubai CSC

In October 2016, he was appointed as the manager of Dubai CSC for the 2016-17 season but after failing to impress with his managerial abilities in the first three games of the season, the club management decided to part company with the Italian manager on 26 November.
