Hamworthy United F.C. are a football club based in Hamworthy, a suburb of Poole, England. They were formed as a merger between Hamworthy and Trinidad Old Boys in 1970. The club is affiliated to the Dorset County Football Association and is a FA chartered Standard club.[1] In the 2003–04 season, they reached the 2nd round of the FA Vase. They reached the Second Round Qualifying of the FA Cup in season 2007–08. They are currently members of the Wessex League Premier Division.
History
Hamworthy Football Club was formed in 1926. They moved to the present ground The County Ground (formerly known as the Nursery) in 1950, two seasons after playing in their first FA Cup game in the 1948–49 season.[2] The club became founding members of the Dorset Combination league in 1957. The club then amalgamated with Trinidad Old Boys at the start of the 1971–72 season to form Hamworthy United Football Club as it is known today.[3]
The club made its debut in the FA Vase in the 1992–93 season and played for a further three seasons before returning to the competition in the 2002–03 season.[4] In the 2002–03 season the league was renamed the Dorset Premier League and the club went on to become champions of the newly named league that season. Hamworthy retained the championship the following season and earned promotion to the Wessex League. The first season in the Wessex league saw the club play in its first FA Cup game since the 1950–51 season.[2][4]
The club also achieved in winning some silverware in the 2004–05 season by winning the Wessex League Cup, beating Thatcham Town in the final. The 2005–06 season saw the club pick up the Dorset Senior Cup by beating Poole Town in the final, a season after finishing as runners-up.[5] The club got to the final again of the league cup but this time finished as runners-up against VT F.C. in the 2008–09 season.[6]
The club have since remained in the Wesssex Premier League.
