History

Bashley Football Club was founded in 1947 and joined the Bournemouth League in 1950, progressing through the ranks before leaving in 1983 to join Division Three of the Hampshire League.[2][3] In the 1984–85 season the club gained promotion to Division two and in the season aftwerwards added more silverware by winning the Russell Cotes Cup.[2][4] In 1986 they became founder members of the Wessex League and won the title for the first three years they took part, 1986–87, 1987–88 and 1988–89.[2] In the 1987–88 season, Bashley came to national prominence after a run to the FA Vase semi-finals, losing 1–0 to Emley in the second leg of the semi-final after a 1–1 draw at the Recreation Ground. Following their third Wessex League title, the club were accepted into the Southern Football League Southern Division and won the title in their first season, gaining promotion to the Premier Division where they played for four seasons before being relegated.

In the 1994–95 season, Bashley reached the First Round proper of the FA Cup for the first time, and won 1–0 at Chesham United to set up a second round tie with Swansea City at the Recreation Ground which they narrowly lost 1–0.[2]

Bashley established themselves as a mid-table Southern Division side until the 1997–98 season when ex-European Cup winner Jimmy Case was appointed as manager and led them to a third-place finish.[5] The 2001–02 season saw the club's best ever FA Trophy run, ending in a fourth round defeat to Stevenage Borough.

For the 2004–05 season the club moved to the Isthmian League Division One due to league re-structuring, but in 2006 they were moved again, this time to the Southern League. Bashley were promoted to the Southern League Premier Division at the end of the 2006–07 season, after notching up a record 102 points in the Southern League South and West Division.[2]
