Johnny Sei-Hoe Hon (born 22 December 1971) is a Hong Kong born international businessman and founder of the Global Group. He set up the Global Group of Companies after becoming a qualified financial adviser at ABN AMRO Bank in Hong Kong.
In addition to his business activities, Dr Johnny Hon has also pursued a wide range of philanthropic, diplomatic and political projects.
Personal Background
Early Life and Family
Hon was born in Hong Kong on 22 December 1971 to Hon Tak Sun (Father) and Wong Ling, Betty (Mother), the eldest of two sons. In 1985, he attended Uppingham School in the United Kingdom to study and live. In 1993, he graduated from King's College London and went to Hughes Hall at the University of Cambridge where he obtained his Ph.D. degree in Psychiatry. Dr. Hon also holds postgraduate qualifications from the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University and from Harvard University.
Dr. Hon has three daughters, Cecilia Yan-Tung Hon, Jacqueline Yan-Ching Hon and Rachel Yan-Ling Hon.
Career
Dr Johnny Hon began his career in private banking at ABN AMRO Bank in Hong Kong. Following this, he launched Global Group International Holdings Ltd in 1997. Global Group is now an international venture capital and angel investment company with interests ranging across a variety of business sectors including banking, property development, financial services, education, media, entertainment, gaming and telecoms.

Media and Entertainment
Dr Hon is an active investor in media and entertainment that was recently described as an ‘Asian Media Mogul’.[3] He has acted as Executive Producer for various international film projects and has worked with leading directors such as Oliver Stone, Derek Yee and Gong Ying Tian.
Dr Hon has more recently become involved in the Theatre business. He is acting as the Executive Producer of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Sunset Boulevard starring Glenn Close at the West End’s London Coliseum in May 2016.[4] He has also been announced as the Executive Producer of 42nd Street, opening in London's West End in March 2017. Public Life
Dr Hon has taken part in various philanthropic, diplomatic and political projects.[9] He is a Fellow and Diamond Benefactor of the Duke of Edinburgh Award World Fellowship, a Founder Benefactor of Asia House and Vice President of the 48 Group Club.[10] Dr Hon’s company, Global Group, is also the patron of a number of education funds and scholarships, including for University of Oxford and Peking University. These scholarships are designed to provide educational opportunities for Chinese students.
In July 2015, he was awarded with the Medal of Honour from the Government of Hong Kong SAR for his contributions to the Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon.[11]
He also holds various political advisory roles. He is a member of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the Yunfu City Committee of the CPPC . Dr Hon holds official positions within four governments and holds the position of Ambassador-at-Large for Grenada.
