Kentucky Route 655 (KY 655) is an east–west rural secondary state highway that goes around the western portion of Edmonson County in south central Kentucky. It is known locally as Segal Road.
Route description
KY 655 is a looping road that starts at an intersection with KY 70 and ends at another intersection with the same state route in Windyville. The distance along KY 70 between the two termini of KY 655 is about a mile (1.6 km) apart.
Along the route are the unincorporated communities of Segal and Asphalt. Just off the route at the end of Mouth of Bear Creek Road is a boat ramp along the Green River close to where Edmonson County meets Butler and Warren counties. It is the site of a now-discontinued ferry that served as a direct link from the Segal and Asphalt areas to the Bowling Green area of Warren County. The Bear Creek Ferry, which was originally a toll ferry for most of its existence, was in operation from the early 1930s until sometime around 1967.

History
The latter 3.569 miles (5.744 km) of the current KY 655, along with the current Mouth of Bear Creek Road in Edmonson County, along with Lock No. 5 Road and the first mile of KY 1749 (near Glenmore) and KY 185 from Glenmore to downtown Bowling Green in Warren County, was originally assigned as KY 67 from the 1930s until 1965, while the first 3.845 miles (6.188 km) of KY 655 was originally designated as KY 555 in Edmonson County.[2] The ferry that was in service during those four decades connected Warren County with western Edmonson County directly. KY 67 was decommissioned when the ferry discontinued service in 1967, and so KY 555 and the northernmost stretch of KY 67 became the current KY 655.[3] [4]
The current incarnation of Kentucky Route 555 is now assigned to a highway in Washington County north of Springfield. In 2003, a new KY 67 designation was assigned to the Industrial Parkway in Greenup County in northeastern Kentucky.
