The Kuala Selangor District is a district in Selangor, Malaysia. It has a total landmass of 1,194 square kilometres (461 sq mi) separated by Selangor River into two division, Tanjung Karang and Kuala Selangor. The district boundary is shared with Sabak Bernam at the north, Hulu Selangor and Gombak at the west, Petaling at the southwest and Klang at the south.

Majlis Daerah Kuala Selangor (MDKS), the local municipal council of Kuala Selangor, exercises jurisdiction for the district of Kuala Selangor. It was established in 1978 with the combination of five local authorities.

Geography

The geography of Kuala Selangor is characterised by a flat land in Tanjung Karang and Jeram. Bordered in Kapar in South and some hills at Southeast. The name Kuala Selangor means Estuary of Selangor River. The district's name was from a town that named when Selangor River meets the sea.

Town development

There are some township and village at Tanjong Karang which most of the land were turned into agriculture forest and fields like paddy and oil palm. The old town is located at Selangor River and its named KS Oldtown. The most city development is located there and the population is estimated in 46,000 people. Some township also located in Southeast of Kuala Selangor which located between three district border, Klang, Gombak, Petaling which is Puncak Alam, Saujana Utama, Seri Coalfields, and Hillpark.

Tourist attractions

Kampung Kuantan fireflies

Kampung Kuantan is well known for its fireflies. Lots of the fireflies nest only available here. Moreover, there has been opinion that magical fireflies are only available at two places in the world and one of it is in Kampung Kuantan.

The adventure of the fireflies' area began in the early 1970s by a local businessman who saw the commercial potential of this miracle. Now, the adventure has been entrusted to the Kuala Selangor District Council and has expanded rapidly with the addition of 27 small boats that are provided for the visitors.

Kuala Selangor Nature Park

Kuala Selangor Nature Park was opened in 1987. With a width of 296 hectare that is divided to 2 main parts that is a 201 hectare wide Tropical Rainforest and the balance is Swamp Forest . The park is under the management of the Malaysia Nature Lovers Association. Because of that, the natural beauties of the park are preserved without any habitat damage that has been the loyal tenants here.

Transportation

Road construction

There is only one highway named Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) linked Ijok, Kuala Selangor and Templer, Rawang. It is also connected with Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE) to Shah Alam and North-South Expressway Central Link to northern Peninsular Malaysia. Another highway which is in planning named West Coast Expressway (WCE) in Tanjung Karang only have small amount of them which only provided in the township of Tanjung Karang and some sub-roads in some villages. The town is usually accessed using Malaysia Federal Route 5.

Public transportation

There are only buses and taxis in Kuala Selangor. Terminal buses is only located at Terminal Bus Kuala Selangor. The main transport in Kuala Selangor is cars because lack of public transport and a good road infrastructure. A Light Rail Transport which connecting Bestari JayaPuncak AlamShah Alam which is in planning had been discontinued since 2012.
