Unai Emery

Paris Saint-Germain Football Club, commonly referred to as PSG, is a French professional association football club based in Paris, whose first team play in the highest tier of French football, the Ligue 1. The capital side was formed in 1970 by the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain.^[1] Since then, the club's first team has had 26 managers.^[2]

Pierre Phelipon (1970–1972) became the first ever manager of Paris Saint-Germain a year after having already replaced the emblematic Stade Saint-Germain manager, Roger Quenolle. He immediately guided PSG to the French top-flight after becoming Ligue 2 champions. On the other hand, former Yugoslavia international Velibor Vasović (1976–1977) was PSG's first foreign manager.^[3]

The longest-serving manager is Georges Peyroche, who, over the course of 3 seasons and eight months (1979–1983), guided PSG to two Coupe de France wins.^[4] Meanwhile, Gérard Houllier's first season (1985–1988) in charge saw PSG being crowned champion of France, delivering the national title to the capital for the first time in 50 years.^[5]

Luis Fernández (1994–1996, then 2000–2003) holds the record for most games managed. During his first spell, PSG won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and he became the first French coach ever to win a continental title. Under the direction of Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti (2011–2013), the capital club clinched its third league crown, 19 years after the last one. The most successful Paris Saint-Germain manager is Laurent Blanc (2013–2016) with 11 titles. In only three seasons, PSG won three Ligue 1, two Coupe de France, three Coupe de la Ligue and three Trophée des Champions spread over one domestic treble and two national quadruples.^[6]

Blanc was replaced by current PSG manager Unai Emery at the end of the 2015–16 season.^[6]
