Miss Chinese Taipei or Miss Taiwan is a national Beauty pageant in the Chinese Taipei.

Between 1961 and 2004 the main winner of Miss Taiwan or Chinese Taipei went to Miss Universe pageant. Due to political reasons, Chinese Taiepe does not participate at the annual Miss Universe since 2005.

Between 1961 and 2004 Chinese Taipei wore Republic of China, Taiwan, Republic of China, Taiwan and Chinese Taipei Sash and has two runners-up in 1962 and 1964 and one semifinalist in 1961.

On May 24, 1988 the 37th Miss Universe pageant was held in Chinese Taipei by Tourism Local Government at Lin Kou Stadium. Miss Thailand, Porntip Nakhirunkanok was crowned by Cecilia Bolocco, Miss Universe 1987 from Chile. The 66 contestants competed in that year.[2]

On May 23, 2003 A tearful Beverly Chen Szu-Yu appeared in a press conference in the midst of the beauty contest to tell reporters the pageant authorities said she could no longer wear her Miss Taiwan sash. She told reporters that due to pressure from China, the pageant authorities said she could only wear the Chinese Taipei sash. Additionally Chen wore the Miss Taiwan sash that she was not allowed to use it by Miss Universe Organization.[3]

Between 1961 and 2004 the 1st Runner-up of Miss Taiwan or Chinese Taipei went to Miss World pageant. In 2005 the main winner went to the Miss World after withdrawing at the Miss Universe. In 2008 the owner of Miss World franchise in Taiwan is usually coming from different directors. Additionally, due to lack sponsorship Chinese Taipei also does not usually exist in Miss World.

Between 1961 and 1964 the 2nd Runner-up of Miss Taiwan or Chinese Taipei went to Miss International pageant. Began in 2005 Chinese Taipei does exist at the Miss International, the winner of Miss International Chinese Taipei will compete at the Miss International beauty pageant.

Miss Earth Chinese Taipei

Miss Chinese Taipei in Miss Earth selects by other agencies but sometimes it will be officially held by Miss Earth Taiwan Organization in Taipei. The winner of the pageant represents the country at the Miss Earth. In Miss Earth, Chinese Taipei actively sends its delegate every year from Miss Chinese Taipei Association.

In 2015 Ting Wen Yin kicked out of Miss Earth pageant for refusing to change Taiwan ROC sash to Chinese Taipei.[4]

  • Macy Shih won the title of Miss Asia Pacific International 1968 (formerly known as Miss Asia Quest) in the Philippines.
  • Wang Wan-Fei awarded as Best National Costume at the Miss Asia Pacific International 1999 in the Philippines.
  • Liu Xiaoou placed as Top 15 semifinalist and awarded as Continental beauty from Asia at the Miss Supranational 2009 in Poland.
