Nenad Krstičić (born 3 July 1990 in Belgrade) is a Serbian footballer who currently plays for Spanish club Deportivo Alavés and the Serbian national team. He is mostly played in defensive midfield role.

Club career

Krstičić started his career at OFK Beograd and joined Sampdoria on 1 September 2008 on the insisting of Giuseppe Marotta, who believed the 17-year-old was one of the most talented players he had ever brought to the club. While playing for the youth team, he played in the 2011 Torneo di Viareggio as over-age member. Before the end of the year, he suffered a knee injury and went through surgery when doctors unexpectedly diagnosed him with a rare and lethal form of tumor from a malignant neoplasm and allegedly told Krstičić he had 48 hours to live.[1] Luckily, the metastasis randomly stopped and Krstičić lived on to play football, although the condition was a great setback from his initial prospects of his talents fully blossoming later in his career.[2]

Krstičić made his debut for Sampdoria in a UEFA Europa League match against Debrecen, on 16 December 2010. On 2 December 2012, he scored his first goal for Sampdoria against Fiorentina.[3]

On 2 February 2015 Krstičić was signed by Bologna F.C. 1909 in a temporary deal.[4] The club also signed Angelo da Costa Júnior and Daniele Gastaldello from the Genoese club outright. However, Krstičić was injured in March.[5] His contract with Sampdoria was terminated on 18 July 2016.[6]

On 25 July 2016, Krstičić signed for La Liga side Deportivo Alavés on a free transfer.[7]

International career

Krstičić made his debut for Serbia on February 6, 2013, in a friendly match against Cyprus at the age of 22.
