Nikola Vukčević (Cyrillic: Hикoлa Bукчeвић, born 13 December 1991), also known as Điđo, is a Montenegrin footballer who plays for S.C. Braga in Primeira Liga. Vukčević began his professional career with Budućnost. He debuted for Montenegro's national team in 2014. He is not to be confused with another footballer also named Nikola Vukčević, who also played for Budućnost.
Club career
Budućnost
Between 2010 and 2013, he played for local club Budućnost Podgorica. During his spell with the club, he earned 65 caps, in which he found the net four times. During 2011–12 Montenegrin First League campaign he emerged as one of the best youngsters in the country, which made him team's captain during Buducnost Podgorica title run. The season after that Vukcevic became the most valuable player in Buducnost squad, starting in 27 out of 33 league matches - the most appearances he made during one season. His good performances for Buducnost Podgorica also earned him a starting spot in Montenegro U21.
Braga
Vukcevic left Buducnost after he became a free player due to expiration of his contract. In September 2013, he signed for Braga, but initially made appearances for the reserve team. The following statement was made by Vuckevic after he signed the contract:
[1] "I'm very happy. Braga For me, a dream come true, because it is a club that is well known in Europe and one of the largest in the Portuguese football. Was very excited when I learned that there is interest and for me this will be a great opportunity. Now I want to work hard and to show the coach what I'm worth. Hopefully that will help Braga and we'll have a great season because we have a great lineup, with very good players" said Vukčević.[2]
He made his debut for the club in a 3-0 win against Vitória, coming as a 91st-minute substitute for Felipe Pardo.[3] He became a regular substitute on Braga's first squad and would occasionally start in matches of Taça de Portugal and Taça da Liga.
International career
Vukčević made his debut against Ghana on 5 March 2014 in a friendly 1-0 win. Though he started the match Nemanja Nikolić substituted him in the 65th minute.[4]
