Old Bømlo Church (Norwegian: Bømlo gamle kyrkje) is a parish church in Bømlo municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Langevåg on the southern tip of the island of Bømlo. The church is part of the Bømlo parish in the Sunnhordland deanery in the Diocese of Bjørgvin.[1][2]

History

The first church in Langevåg was built sometime before the year 1360. That medieval church was torn down in 1620 and replaced with the present church in 1621. The white, wooden church seats about 150 people. It has been renovated several times since it was built, most recently in 1951. The present church became too small for the congregation and so in 1960, a new, modern Bømlo Church was built nearby. The new church seats about 500 people. The old church is still in use, but mostly for special events such as weddings and special services.[3]
