Orvakal is a village and a Mandal in Kurnool district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.

Geography

The village is home to the Orvakal Rock Garden, which are silica and quartz rock formations amongst pools of water.[2]

The Kethavaram Rock paintings,[3] from the Paleolithic era, are located along a stretch of the Orvakal Rock Formations.

Transportation

A four lane road of NH18 passes through this village. It is well connected to Kurnool and Nandyal through road. Kurnool Railway station is the nearest railway station. There is a proposal to establish a Greenfield Airport at this village to serve air transport needs of people of Kurnool district.[4]

Religion

Sufi saint Sri Sri Sri Hazarat Syed Mahamood Sha Khadri dargha is there in Orvakal. Yearly the Urs-e-Sharif of the Sufi saint is celebrated within the town, drawing people from across the Kurnool district. Urs-e-Sharif is celebrated after 5 days of Maha Shivaratri.

Sri Chowdesware Devi (Chmandeswari Devi) was established in Orvakal.

Bramustav are held yearly for 15 days from Devi Navartrulu to Pournami, when there is a devotional night celebration for people within and outside of the village.

Sri Ambhasahitha Yaganteeswara swamy Temple is located in N.Konthalapadu village which is 5km near by orvakal village.
