History

The name Pioneros comes from a local branch of hotels in Cancún, México. The club was founded in 1984 when they join the Tercera División de México and still holds its name which now identifies the city of Cancún.The club obtains its first cup after defeating Conejos in el estadio “Víctor Manuel Reyna” in the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas. The next year the club would finish third place and so play in a promotional play off with clubs Lobos and Aguilas B. As a result, the club would be promoted to the Segunda B[1] but the owner decided to buy a franchise in the Segunda A which would allow them to play for a chance to be promoted to the Primera División de México.

Playing in the Segunda A the club came close many times but fail in there attempts to be promoted and in the early 1990s the city cut resources and so the club once aging fell to the inferior divisions. In the mid-1990s the club changed its name to Tucanes de Cancun but fail to gain popularity and so force was forced to change the name back to its original namePioneros. It was until 2006 when José del Carmen Vázquez Ávila bought the club and has now proposed a plan to have the franchise in the first division in a couple of yearsand by so have gain the support of the natives.
