Spain was represented by José Vélez at the Eurovision Song Contest 1978, held in Paris, France. Vélez was selected internally by Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE), the Spanish broadcaster, to represent the country at the contest in France with the song "Bailemos un vals".
At Eurovision
Vélez performed 7th in the night of the contest, following France and preceding the United Kingdom. At the close of voting Vélez had received 65 points, placing 9th in a field of 20.
