The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is a smartphone developed by Xiaomi Inc. It is a part of the Xiaomi's low-end Redmi smartphone line. The MediaTek variant (codename hennessey) was released on November 24, 2015.[3]
The Snapdragon variant (codename kenzo) was launched on March 3, 2016.[4] The launch event was held at Delhi's Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Hugo Barra, the vice president of Xiaomi gave the speech. Redmi Note 3 is the third "Made in India" Mi phone, the previous ones are Redmi 2 Prime and Redmi Note Prime. Xiaomi introduced its successor, Redmi Note 4, in China on August 24.[5]
It runs on an Android based MIUI 7 OS which is upgradable to MIUI 8.[6]
Hardware
The MediaTek variant of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is equipped with MediaTek MT6795 Helio X10, PowerVR G6200 GPU. While the Snapdragon variant includes Hexa-core 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 650 and Adreno 510 GPU.[7]
Both variants include 5.5 in (140 mm) 1080p display, 2GB or 3GB RAM, 16GB or 32GB eMMC 5.0 Flash, a 5MP front camera and 16MP rear camera, non-removable Li-Po 4050 MAh battery, 4G dual SIM (although only sim 1 supports 4g and the other supports 2g only), Volte, dual band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, running on MIUI 8 system.[8]
The snapdragon version[9] uses a special display technology known as 'Sunlight Display' in which the phone detects the ambient light and makes pixel level adjustments in order to be better legible in the sunlight. It also features a special eye care technology which reduces blue light to a great extent, thus making it a great device for reading.[10]
Another notable feature of the phone is the presence of a finger-print sensor at the back. It is not only fast but very accurate as well. It can be used from all direction and can unlock the phone in just about 0.1 sec. It can also be used for capturing images via the front or the rear cameras.
The Redmi Note 3 international version has support for multiple languages including Hindi, Nepali, Marathi, Bengali, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Gujarati and Assamese.
Sales
On August 25, 2016, Xiaomi reported that the company had sold around 1.75 million units since its release in March 2016.[11] It also became the highest-shipped smartphone in India's online market in Q2 2016.[12] It also became India's best online selling phone after it sold 2.3 million units uptill September 2016.[13]
