Bonefro is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Campobasso in the Italian region Molise, located about 25 kilometres (16 mi) northeast of Campobasso. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,791 and an area of 31.1 square kilometres (12.0 sq mi).[1]
Bonefro hosts the annual [Adriatic Chamber Music Festival http://www.acmf.org] (Festival di Adriatico da Musica da Camera) in July.
Bonefro borders the following municipalities: Casacalenda, Montelongo, Montorio nei Frentani, Ripabottoni, San Giuliano di Puglia, Sant'Elia a Pianisi, Santa Croce di Magliano.
In the urban context of the town and artistic take on considerable importance, the Lombard Castle built around the middle of the tenth century AD and the Santa Maria delle Rose church built in the Romanesque period (12th-13th century) and renovated by Msgr. Tria in 1731. Both buildings are located on the top of a rocky outcrop at the entrance of the old town, commonly called "Old Earth". Here are four gates preserved vestiges of the feudal period: Molino Porta, Porta Pie la Terra, Fountain Gate and New Gate three alley Gaifo dating back to the Lombard period. Great importance is given to the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie (1716), and the chapel of St. Nicholas with the two main fountains in the country that are named respectively as the Fountain of the Blind, built in eighteenth-century style in 1816, and the Fountain of land in 1771.
