Prior to 1998, the governor and lieutenant governor were elected in separate elections, since then they have run together on the same ticket.

McManus (served 1959–1961, born 1920). The most recent death of a former U.S. lieutenant governor of Iowa was that of Arthur A. Neu (served 1973–1979, born 1933), on January 2, 2015.
