Pomanda Island is a low-lying island of an area of 34 hectares (84 acres) located in South Australia within Lake Alexandrina about 87 kilometres (54 mi) southeast of the Adelaide city centre and 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south of the town of Wellington. Pomanda Island was the site of a weir proposed by the South Australian Government in 2009. The 2.6 kilometres (1.6 mi) temporary weir was proposed to protect River Murray water supplies, should it become necessary to let seawater into Lake Alexandrina.[1][2]
