Sathankulam taluk

Sathankulam taluk is a taluk of Thoothukudi district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The headquarters of the taluk is the town of Sathankulam.

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, the taluk of Sathankulam had a population of 98,583 with 47,444 males and 51,139 females. There were 1078 women for every 1000 men. The taluk had a literacy rate of 81.18. Child population in the age group below 6 was 4,941 Males and 4,746 Females.[1]

Nedunguam village panchayet belongs to Satankulam Panchayet Union.In Nedungluam panchayet Thiru Thaveethu Nadar is the first Panchayet president. Basically he was a registered building Contractor by Government. He was making tank, roads colony houses for poor people in villages.Thaveethu Nadar was elected as Nedungulam President in 1958. His wife Mrs. Pichaikani Ammal was the first lady panchayet president of Nedungulam panchayet in the district. Mrs. Pichaikani Ammal was elected Nedungulam panchayet President in the year of 1971. She was serving the people effectively till 1996. In order to uplift women's job opportunity Mr. Thavethu Nadar Mrs. Pichaikani Ammal Tailoring Institute is established by St. James Educational Medical Trust that is run by their son Rev. D. Karuthiah Selvaraj. This Tailoring Institute gives dress making technology only to women so that they can earn money by self earning from their home or can get job in Ready Made Garment company near by.
