Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration (Uzbek: Toshkent Irrigatsiya va Melioratsiya Instituti) or TIIM is unique university in Central Asia, which works for development of water industry, and supplies the country with professionals on this field. Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration plays huge role in development of Uzbekistan economy and industry. Every year, talented students graduate from this university.

History

The history of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration goes back to Soviet Union times. The university was first established in the year of 1923 as the department of big "Turkistan State University". It was created under the Technical faculty and was called "Hydro technical engineering". In its first year of establishment, 24 agronomists and 16 water conservation specialists graduated from the faculty. The history of this university could be recognized by the second occasion. After 6 years of opening the "Hydro technical engineering" department, government decided to establish new department under the "Melioration engineering faculty". Those two departments were linked together in 1929, which led to the establishment of "Central Asian cotton irrigation polytechnic university". On 11 November 1934 "Central Asian cotton irrigation polytechnic university" was mixed with the "Central Asian institute of agricultural industry irrigation and mechanization", which was the reason for creation of "Tashkent institute of agricultural industry irrigation and mechanization". In the first years of establishment there were only two faculties which were "Hydro melioration" and "Mechanization". After the World War II, agricultural industry of the country increased rapidly, which affected on needs for professional employee's.

After World War II, number of faculties were created, which were: “Building” (1945), “Mechanization of hydro melioration” (1946), “Hydro energetics” (1946). In 1974 new faculty under the name “Technology of repairing agricultural industry machines and creating them”. In 1979 number of engineering faculties were opened, which is directly linked to the economic growth in Uzbekistan.

After the Independence of Uzbekistan, the institute faced new pages in its history of existence. All the textbooks were interpreted into Uzbek language, and most of the classes started to be thought in native language of Uzbekistan. In 2004, on 30 March by the edict of "Cabinet of Ministers" of Uzbekistan, the institute obtained its current name. Which means that "Tashkent institute of agricultural industry irrigation and mechanization" was renamed to "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration". Nowadays the Institute involves 5 faculties with 30 departments. Where 353 professors and teachers are giving knowledge to more than 4860 students.[1]

Campus

Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration consists of 4 main buildings, three laboratory buildings, scientific centers, information recourse center which has 700 thousand materials in its fund, 3 dormitories with overall capacitance for 1200 students, canteen which can serve 460 people at one time and the park.[2]

Rector

The rector of "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration" is Xamidov Muxammadxon Xamidovich, who is the doctor of agricultural industry and professor.[3]

Duties

“Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration" have set its duties and provided them in the rules of the institute. There 6 main duties which are covered by the "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration". They are:

  1. Supply the individual(student) with intellectual and cultural education, and meet their ethical needs.
  2. Help those individuals (students) to become improved by all of the sides.
  3. To develop the subject by giving attention to volunteers who are creating something new relating to that subject.
  4. To improve the qualification in economy of interested people.
  5. To keep the nations ethic and cultural belief’s and enlarge them.
  6. To spread the knowledge among the citizens.[4]

Faculties

“Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration" currently consists of five faculties, which are divided into 30 departments. The five faculties are as follows:

Water industry management faculty

Till the 1970s there were no any economists on water industry in Uzbekistan. Which caused some serious problems in water consumption and utilization. This problem urgently needed actions. In 1974 in order to solve this problem, new branch was opened under the faculty of "Hydro technical constructions", which was called as "Economy of water industry and its analysis". In 1976, this branch was set as the independent faculty and started working as the one of the biggest parts of institute. From the first years about 50 students were invited to the university and in 1979 first 50 students graduated from this faculty. After the independence of Uzbekistan, from the year of 2015 was renamed to its current name and was called: “Water industry management faculty”. Nowadays, the dean of the faculty is docent Ibragimov Abdimalik Gapparovich. In the campus of the faculty there are 2 language classes, 4 computer classes, more than 20 study classes, which are supplied with the modern education materials and information technologies. There are 7 departments which are located “Water industry management faculty” and they are:

  1. Information technologies
  2. Water industry economy
  3. Control under the water industry
  4. Theoretical economy
  5. Accounting and audit
  6. Uzbek and foreign languages
  7. English language[6]

Hydro melioration faculty

The history of hydro melioration faculty can be separated into 2 parts. The first is the Soviet Union times and the second is period after the independence of Uzbekistan. The past of the faculty is directly linked with the history of university, which means that faculty was created in 1923 and was the first faculty in the history of the university. In the first year only 8 students graduated from the faculty, and during that period of time there were 274 students and 49 professors. On 16 November 1934, number of students increased rapidly and the number was equal to 705 students. Establishment of the faculty led to the economic growth in Central Asia. After the independence the faculty was mixed with 2 different departments, and nowadays it has three main bachelor's degree branches which are:

Automating and mechanizing the water industry faculty

Automating and mechanizing the water industry faculty was established after world war, when there were high demands for workers on agricultural industry. The faculty was created after mixing the two faculties which are: “Mechanization of hydro melioration works” 1946 and the “Automating the agricultural industry” 1962. It happened because of the 415th edict which was made by the “Cabinet of Ministers” of Uzbekistan, in the year of 2004 on September the third. Overall there are 8 departments in "Automating and mechanizing the water industry faculty", and they are:

Building of irrigation hydro technical construction and usage faculty

Nowadays the dean of the "Building of irrigation hydro technical construction and usage faculty" is docent B.B.Xasanov. The history of the establishment goes back to the year of 1946, when the first woman irrigator T.A.Kolpakova opened the "Building of small and medium hydroelectric-stations faculty". After some years the faculty was called as the "Hydro technical building". However, big changes to the faculty came to the independence years of Uzbekistan. Firstly, in 1991 faculty was considered to be as the department due to the changes in infrastructure. During those years, faculty worked as the part of "Center for preparing the irrigation engineers" and from the year of 1996 it became the part of "Hydro melioration faculty" and prepared professionals on Water industry building" field. After the edict which was made by "Cabinet of Ministers" of Uzbekistan, small department became the fully functioning faculty with the name: “Building of irrigation hydro technical constructions and utilization”. However, the faculty obtained its current name only in 2015 by the 311 edict which was made on November the third, in the year of 2015 by the “Cabinet of Ministers” of Uzbekistan. There 4 departments which are involved inside the faculty and they are: “Hydro technical buildings and constructions”, “Utilization of water energy and stations”, “Theoretical and building mechanics”, “Drawn geometry and graphics”.[9]

Utilization of land and land cadaster faculty

Utilization of land and land cadaster faculty was first established in 1945 under the name of "Land making". Faculty attained its current name in the year of 2004, and it is called: “Utilization of land and land cadaster faculty”. Nowadays, the dean of the “Utilization of land and land cadaster faculty” is Mukimov Zarip Majlisovich. On these days, there are 670 students who are involved with studies in this faculty. During it is working period “Utilization of land and land cadaster faculty” became one of the biggest educational places in Central Asia. There are some students who came from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kirgizia, and Tajikistan. There three bachelor's degree branches and 2 master's degree branches in "Utilization of land and land cadaster faculty". Bachelor's degree branches:

In addition to this there are three departments which are located in this faculty:

  1. Land creations and land relationship;
  2. Land cadaster;
  3. Calculus.[10]

Student town

Student town was first established in 1987 under the "Tashkent irrigation and mechanization of agricultural industry engineers institute". From the year 2004 it is considered to be the student's town of the "Tashkent Irrigation and Melioration Institute". Student town consists of three student's dormitories which are numbered as 2,3,4 respectively and with the two buildings of number 6,7 for the University staff. The director of the student's town is Bozorov Baxtiyor Xakimovich.[11]

Dormitories

Each dormitory in student's town holds students from various faculties. For instance, the first dormitory with the number "2", holds 232 students from "Automating and mechanizing the water industry faculty" and 44 students from "Building of irrigation hydro technical construction and usage faculty". Overall, dormitory number "2" holds 276 students. Dormitory number "3" holds about 410 students from different faculties. In addition to this there 4 female students who are currently living in dormitory "3" which are from China. Dormitory number "4" holds 385 students from different faculties. Meanwhile, there are 7 international students who are dormitory "4" residences.

Buildings number "6" and "7" are mainly serving university staff representatives and young scientists. There 162 rooms in those buildings and 607 people are currently leaving in that accommodations.

Each building is provided with solutions for essential needs of every individual. There are sport halls, kitchens, reading halls, and rest rooms in each level of that buildings. They all are fully provided with gas and electric energy. In addition, there is a small library in the student's town, and it works by its working graphic daily. Which means even though students are far away from the university, they can deal up with their studies in that library. Library provides the students with most of the textbooks. Kitchen rooms of dormitories are provided with tables and chairs, and ovens. Students can cook their foods in those kitchens. Meanwhile, each room in the buildings of student's town is fully functional and supplied with the emergency exit. Which means, that fire emergency problems are covered fully.[12]

Academic Lyceums

There two academic lyceums which are opened under the name of "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration". They are: “Yunusabad academic lyceum” and “International house – Tashkent lyceum”. They were opened to cover high demands for qualified high-school graduates.The representative from university who works with lyceums is: Makumova Dilrabo Innatovna[13]

Yunusabad academic lyceum

Yunusabad academic lyceum was first established under the "Tashkent irrigation and mechanization of agricultural industry engineers institute" in 1987, with another name of "Universal technical lyceum". However, after the independence of Uzbekistan by the edict of "Cabinet of Ministers" of Uzbekistan in 1998 on 23 September the name of the lyceum must have been changed. This edict was done only after the year, exactly on 2 September 1999, and was renamed and re-established by the edict number 406 to "Yunusabad academic lyceum". There are three faculties in this academic lyceum and they are: “Exact sciences”, “Natural sciences”, “Social-humanitarian subjects”.

Only the prospective students who have successfully completed the 9 year’s secondary program, can apply to the university. Then, they can be examined by the lyceum administration. Students from the other regions are provided with the dormitories. There are five departments in “Yunusabad academic lyceum”, and they are listed below:

International house – Tashkent lyceum

International house in Tashkent is one of the two lyceums which were established under the name of "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration". However, the lyceum first was opened as the education center in 1993, in order to inherit educational processes and techniques from developed countries which are United Kingdom and US. The lyceum was located in the center of the Tashkent city, and it is easy to find its location, by the metro station Hamid Olimjon. In 2007 by the edict of Islam Karimov, the simple education center was fully set to be the academic lyceum, and was given under the "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration". In 2009, for making the academic lyceum fully standard with the world requirements, reconstruction works were established. The education in lyceum is based on the Uzbekistan's educational standards, and held in two different faculties, which are: “Exact sciences” and “Social-humanitarian sciences”. In 2011 International house academic lyceum published their own magazine catalog, which tells all about the “International house lyceum”. The magazine was names as “We are Inter house!”. The materials for the magazine were collected from the year of 2009. Nowadays about 300 students are studying at the “International house lyceum” and there are two professors, 4 docents and number of high qualified teachers.[15][16]

“Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration" is located in Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent city, Qari Niyoziy street, 39-house.[17]
