The University of Management and Technology (UMT) (Urdu: یونیورسٹی آف مینیجمنٹ اینڈ ٹیکنالوجی) is a private university located in Johar Town, Lahore, Pakistan. The university is government-chartered and is recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. The university is a project of ILM Trust.
UMT is a project of Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Trust which was established in 1990 by leading educationists, professionals and industrialists with an aim to enhance the organizational and individual effectiveness. To date, over 15,000 UMT alumni are serving nationally and globally in leading organizations.
In 2015, the University of Management and Technology (UMT) celebrated 25 years of ‘Emergence with Eminence’ in recognition of its contribution to the promotion of higher education in Pakistan. As a premier institution of higher learning in the country, UMT is recognized by the HEC of Pakistan as a ‘W4 Category’ (highest rank) university. For more than two years, UMT was also at the top as per HEC ranking in General Category (medium-sized) of private sector institutions in the Punjab. At present, 150+ accredited programs are being offered in the 13 Schools and 5 Institutes operating in the University. UMT is also the first private sector university to establish HEC approved sub-campus in Sialkot.
The university is a member of Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN), The Association of Advance Collegiate Institutions of Business (AACSB), Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA), Association of Management Development Institutions in Pakistan (AMDIP) and European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).
The BS Electrical Engineering degree program offered by the university is accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council. MBA and BBA degree programs offered by the university are accredited by NBEAC. BS programs in computer science and software engineering are accredited by the NCEAC. AMDISA has awarded Full SAQS accreditation for a period of five years to the business school of the university.
History
UMT is a project of Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Trust. ILM was established in 1990 by leading educationists, professionals, and industrialists with an aim to enhance the organizational and individual effectiveness. Guided by the noble mission of helping others in actualizing their limitless human potential to its finest shape, ILM sought to respond to the challenges of information-based economy, globalization, and ever increasing complexity.
The University of Management and Technology has evolved into a premier institution of higher learning in the country. Recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as a “W4” category (highest rank) university, UMT is also the first in the Punjab amongst medium sized universities in the general category.
UMT – now an independent, not-for-profit, private institution of higher learning – received her degree-granting charter first as the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in 2002 through an Act of the Assembly of the Punjab. Later, on 16 June 2004, IMT became University of Management and Technology through the passing of a similar Act by the Punjab Assembly.

University Campuses
The purpose-built 200+ kanal main campus of the university is located in Johar Town, Lahore. It has an academic block, library and learning resource center, spacious classrooms, well-equipped science and engineering laboratories, facilities for indoor/outdoor sports and a newly built cafeteria. Facilities are continuously being added and development and extension work is in progress. A beautiful mosque and a new building is under-construction in the premises of main campus.
The sub-campus of the university is located in Sialkot.UMT is the first private sector university to establish HEC approved sub-campus in Sialkot, the city known for the manufacturing and export of items such as surgical and musical instruments, sports goods, leather goods and textile goods. The sub-campus was formally opened in Sialkot on May 2, 2012. The campus is spread over 20 kanals of land and is situated in Small Industrial Estate road which is the central part of Sialkot city. Sialkot sub-campus of the university has several multimedia classrooms, laboratories, computer labs furnished with state-of-the art computers, campus wide WiFi internet facility, well-stocked learning resources, offices and surveillance system. For extracurricular activities, a dedicated 56 kanals of land has been acquired near Daska.
Information Processing Center
Information Processing Center (IPC) at UMT provides state-of-the-art computing facilities. IPC serves 2000-3000 participants daily. Its standards meet the international requirements of highly advanced IT equipment and services including Intel® Core™ i7 Systems, Intel® Core™ i5 Systems, 8 computer classrooms, 3 HP 9050 heavy dutylaser printers, 52 Mbps/s CIR Internet bandwidth, and scanners and CD/DVD writers.
Quality Enhancement Cell
UMT established the QEC to serve as an innovative quality center with national and international linkages and facilitate the change activities within UMT. The aim of QEC is to become a facilitator in enhancing the UMT wide quality of the academic programs as well as effective management of all the internal processes to satisfy various stakeholders including students, faculty, parents, corporate partners and society. QEC also provides informational support for academic policies and contributes towards timely feedback of all the stakeholders.
QEC is the focal point for facilitation of the implementation of HEC prescribed standards as well as the enhancement of quality initiatives in a continuous manner. It acts as 'catalyst body' to help expedite the quality implementation and attain new standards of excellence for UMT.
In 2015, the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of UMT was awarded 91% on the basis of quantitative assessment that is conducted annually by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) of HEC, Pakistan. For the last four assessments, UMT has successfully maintained its ranking in W category (85%-100%) which is the highest category.
Library & Learning Resource Center
UMT supports its academic programs and research initiatives through a state-of-the-art Library and Learning Resource Center (L&LRC). The intrinsic focus of the L&LRC is to make available the persistent intellectual linkage required to build specific resources, and pave the way towards attainment of rare to-be-found scripts, contents and substances for researchers and students. The well stocked library and Learning Resource Center has over 115,000 books to facilitate learning and research, 70 foreign and local journals, 15 online databases, 300,000 digital resources, 15 annually subscribed foreign journals, 7 special collections and 1 Learning Disability Center. The corporate clients, students and alumni who use the services and resources of the L&LRC term it as the treasure-house of knowledge.
Hostels
UMT has two separate spacious hostels for male and female students. Students are accommodated on ‘first come first served basis.’The hostels offer independent messing and recreation areas. Pick and drop facility is provided to hostel residents.The university hostels are situated at Wahdat Road, Lahore.
